MEMORANDUM FOR:
H.R. HALDEMAN
FROM:
CHARLES COLSON
SUBJECT:
McCracken's Upcoming
Testimony
I talked to McCracken this afternoon and he is in the throes
of revising his memorandum to the President which details
the job creation of the various economic initiatives. McCracken
agrees that it is too low.
He wants to do a thorough study this week and incorporate this
in his testimony before the Joint Economic Committee next
week. Connally agrees with this, believes that this will be a
good forum for it and that the timing will be right next week to
announce this. Connally does not feel that we need it this
week, feels that McCracken is the best person to do it and
the Joint Economic Committee a good forum. As part of
official testimony, the figures will have added credibility.
Hence, you should disregard the memo that you have to the
President dated August 20. Wait for McCracken's updated
version and we will play it up here next week when he testifies.
