In making a decision on\nwho will fill this position I hope that consideration\nwill be given to Mr. Robert J. Myers, who is the\nChief Actuary of the Social Security Administration.\nIn my capacity as a Member of the House\nCommittee on Ways and Means, which has legislative\njurisdiction over Social Security Act matters, I\nhave known Mr. Myers for some 22 years. During the\ncourse of this time I have had extensive opportunity\nto view his professional competence, to evaluate\nhis public service, and to be aware of his personal\ntraits. He is outstanding in all respects.\nMr. Myers participated in the original\nadvisory group study that led to the development\nof the original Social Security Act. As Chief\nActuary he has had the responsibility of making\nactuarial studies of the law and proposals to amend\nthe law. He has fully participated in Social Security\nMr. Peter Flanigan\nDecember 12, 1968\ndeliberations during legislative consideration of\namendments to the Act.
