MEMORANDUM FOR: THE PRESIDENT
FROM:
WILLIAM L. GIFFORD
SUBJECT:
Reorganization
In response to your earlier directions and your specific
comment last week, contact on the subject of reorganization
is being made daily with Senator John McClellan or his
immediate staff.
He is being kept fully informed of our activities and has
expressed himself as being in support of the Department of
Community Development, calling for hearings and indicating
he will vote for it. He has gone SO far as to say he would
like to get this out "this year."
A careful watch is maintained on those projects he supports
in Arkansas.
The Senator is aware of your interest and has been told
that he is being kept fully posted at the direction of the
President.
The daily contact is being done in a friendly and cordial
way, which he seems to appreciate.
