"If you think I was exaggerating when I spoke last Monday about
a country 'ragged in spirit', you ought to see my staff at 7:30 in the

I've heard that Teddy Kennedy believes very much in the
benefits of jogging. And now he seems to be speeding up a bit.
When I invite members of my staff to visit the White House
with their small children, I make only one request: Don't bring
Teddy Bears.
I know this is a night for levity, but there is a serious point
to be made about two of your honored guests tonight.
What does an astronaut have in common with a political figure?
Perhaps the answer was best expressed in a Broadway musical
play about Don Quixote:
To run where the brave dare not go,
Though the goal be forever too far,
To try, though you're wayworn and weary,
To reach the unreachable star
To reach the unreachable star,
Though you know it's impossibly high,
To live with your heart striving upward
To a far, unattainable sky!
