-2- of our youth are claiming far too much attention. Thousands of young people have learned to better understand and appreciate their government through attendance at Boys State and Boys Nation. Many young students are sharpening their minds and improving their arguments as a result of the American Legion's Oratorical contests. These programs are of great importance, for America's future is in the hands of these young people -- idealistic, well educated, proud of themselves and of their country. I have noted with interest that not only is 1969 the 50th Anni- versary of the Legion, it is also the 25th Anniversary of the G.I. Bill of Rights. The Legion can be justly proud of its strong support of the adoption of that historic legislation. All veterans can take satisfaction in the knowledge that the Legion is continuously at work to ensure that America's fighting men are not forgotten when they lay down their arms and return to their homes. The Legion can be proud of the record it has made over the last fifty years in the area of veterans affairs, but its contributions have been even broader. Its interest in youth, education and a score of other areas of endeavor have made the local Legion posts centers of civic action in thousands of communities around the nation.
