GRIDIRON SUGGESTIONS MAR CH 13, 1969 President Hightower, members and guests of the Gridiron Club. Since this is your first dinner I have attended as President of the United States - permit me one comment about the office I now hold. Have you ever wanted anything so much for SO long that when you finally got it you found you really didn't want it at I would like to pass on something I learned this week as advice to newlyweds Never take a Sentinel on a Honeymoon. (Safire) The big question in Washington seems to be: 11 Will Teddy run for the only job he really wants in 1972?" My guess would be no. I'm sure Senator Kennedy is aware of the odds against trying to knock out an incumbent - so I would say Mike Mansfield is safe at least until 1976. As for the Presidency - Teddy has problems there also. Vice President Humphrey has sworn the next Democratic Convention will not be held in Chicago and he is already looking for another location large enough to house all the delegates a place that has adequate airport and run ways and enough action to satisfy the delegates in their off hours. So far - the only place that fits his description is the Ranch!
