LAIRD
House GOP leaders assailed Fulbright for what
they termed a "gratuitous attack" on the veracity
of Secretary Laird. Rep. John Rhodes said Fulbright
failed to substantiate his charge in any single instance.
"If he knows of any time that Laird has not told the
truth he should bring it forward. 11 Gerald Ford said
he conçurred in Rhodes criticism.

Communist China broadcast a diagnosis of what it
called Laird's "war mania, 11 and said the only remedy
is to wipe out Laird and other "US Imperalists. 11 The
official new China news agency said that when US
planes attacked NVN, Laird "cried out madly four
times in three days, making war threats and resorting
to war blackmail against the Vietnamese people. "
The article declared that "in a fit of mania, one
generally looks terribly pugnacious but is filled with
fear and weakness at heart. The more frequently
one shows such symptoms, the more incurable is
one's disease. "

LITHUANIA
A Lithuanian-American group wants RN to declare
publicly that the denial of asylum to a Lithuanian
sailor who fled from a Soviet fishing boat "was a
mistake on the part of some US officials. 11 Unless
the President states that this country grants political
asylum to those requesting it, said Romas Kezys,
chairman of the Lithuanian-American Action Com-
mittee, "people behind the Iron Curtain will lose
faith in the US. " Kezys said he would propose to his
committee that a delegation go to Washington to see
the President.
