On Wash. Week in Review Lisagor said HAK's talks reaffirmed

Coddrey said RN is
giving up on negotiations and concentrating on Vietnamization. On
POWs, Lisagor noted they've always been held to the end in past wars,
but this is novel situation as Admin. has raised issue to high emotional
level. Robert McNeil said he thought RN would change view of support-
ing Thieu if it was in his political interest, but Lisagor said no.
Lisagor thinks revelation of talks will make NVN, Peking and Moscow
think twice about secret talks in future, but noted NVN was using the
talks for their own nefarious purposes. Time's Neil McNeil said RN
made critics look "foolish" and there is sense of duplicity in Cong.

wants, and that this may be the new meaning of treason. RN's charge
of aiding the enemy, says St. John on CBS Spectrum, was not just a
political point but the truth because NVN wouldn't have such confidence
without "irresponsible and irrational" rhetoric of critics. Doves have
become the war hawks of Hanoi, says St. John, and want U. S.
"humiliation" to pay for past evils.
Reasoner took a look at RN speech after saying that perhaps our
biggest mistake in VN was to set as our goal what was desirable rather
than realize what is possible. Since '68, we've been undergoing a
tortuous retreat and we're still shaving our goals. RN is reducing
our aims but still there've been more and more deaths, said Harry
