The Dems are considering a weekend telethon --
ala Jerry Lewis for Muscular Dystrophy -- to
raise campaign funds. Pledges could be charged
to credit cards.
13 Dems and 3 GOPs have been listed on the Wisc.
primary ballot.
EMK will ask to be taken off
noted NBC
Patsy Mink, also on the Wisc.
ballot, wants to be on the Oregon's as well.
The Black Caucus asked "for an appropriate number' 11
of prime-time hours each year, generally com-
parable to those of the Exec. Branch.
Wallace
will enter the W. Va. primary.
MISCELLANY
Dow-Jones down 38 in another active day.
All nets reported Mahalia Jackson's funeral services,
which drew thousands, the plain as well as the
illuminaries, as Mayor Daley, Correta King,
Sammy Davis eulogized her. RN's message of
condolence was noted on NBC. Aretha Franklin's
singing caused widespread emotional fervor in the
hall.
All nets noted that former Hughes aide John
Meier, Dem. Sen. candidate from N. Mex. ,
has been tied into the case, with Irving saying
he was the so-called George Gordon Holmes
he dealt with and Mrs. Irving identifying a picture
of Meier as the contact man. NBC pointed out that
Meier is a computer expert and is known to have
had access to info. on Hughes. Meier says the
charge is "ridiculous."
Golda Meir thinks women's lib is "a foolish thing"
according to a group of visiting American women.
God is more in the news and seems "more marketable"
than in the 60's when he was declared dead, accord-
ing to Reasoner in his Commentary. Special interest
