US reported by Kalb to be "delighted but silent. 11 Meaning of move unclear as it may reflect frustration at Egypt's inability to get more Russ aid or a desire to prosecute an attack on Israel on its own. Major focus also on AFL-CIO session Wed. w/Schorr anticipating a decision on McG will be put off w/Meany losing chance for declaration of all-out war. But McG forces won't get all-out support, if any at all, for time being either. Eagleton on 2 nets telling of his efforts to bring labor around. Rizzo's seeming, tho disclaimed, endorsement of RN on CBS film and noted by others while Javits, also on CBS w/NBC/ABC note, surfaced his desires for a "Dump Agnew" effort but Mudd said that at last report, the Javits move remained at, or below, sea level. Brief NBC/CBS note that HAK is out of sight amid speculation that he's back in Paris. No WH comment noted by both. NBC w/lengthy Swedish film of civilian areas in NVN allegedly hit hard by US bombs. Shots of children severely wounded by new "perforation" bombs and film of civilian residences in ruins Note by all that ARVN advance units are 50 yards from the NVA-occupied citadel in Quang Tri.
