NEWS CONFERENCE
Probably no President has ever faced tougher questions, said
Cronkite, noting resignation/impeachment raised
Stahl of CBS
on special called it "an act of courage" to take "very tough, specific"
questions in atmosphere RN probably saw as "hostile. ". 11 "Unusually
tough" questions, said Utley, w/ W'gate queries coming "hard and fast. "
Kiker on live coverage called it "1 of toughest" conferences he's

HK Smith.

he was being attacked. RN came across, said Dan, as a fighter and
as candid -- and he probably helped himself.
Rather expects "nationwide high-marks" for RN because 1) he
finally faced questions man-to-man and 2) was overall impressive.
Following live coverage HK Smith said RN had done more good
for himself than he has in past 5 months
Kiker, also after live
coverage and on NBC special, said it was an "impressive,"
