Brinkley noted w/ disdain the CEP proposal that state college
tuitions be doubled in order to make financially-troubled private
schools more competitive. That puts education in category w/ major
illness, said David w/ middle income getting skinned again. Poor
can get aid, rich have no trouble paying high tuition but for families
even in $20, 000 range, tuition is already too much -- and those
families are viewed as "too rich" to qualify for help. So Brinkley
says "obvious answer¹¹ is for fed govt to send money to private
colleges. It'll be said money's not available, but as far as Brinkley's
concerned, if $500M can go for peanut farmer subsidies, there must
be some for colleges as well.
House voted 294-105 to authorize $597M over next 3 years to
support of arts and humanities.

a LA station to ban 42 children's shows and to precede 81 others w/
chimed warnings to parents. Among shows banned are "Batman,"
"Superman," "The Long Ranger" and "Mighty Mouse. 11

identification of youth as 1 of three who shot and robbed him for 25¢,
Phi Beta Kappa key and watch.
Stennis jury was sent out immediately
when he said "I see the gentleman sitting over there. 11 Defense motion
for mistrial denied. Defense objected on grounds prosecution said it
wouldn't claim Stennis could identify alleged assailant.
