Noting STA was provided w/ office, staff and USSS protection
while he sorted out papers, CBS AM's Serafin said STA staffer
foresees announcement of what will be done w/ the 600 boxes
of papers w/in a few days. Again, Serafin itemized over
$12, 000 for rent, $550,000 for salaries, $155,000 for USSS agents
and miscellaneous costs for total of $225, 000 spent since STA
resigned. He's now looking for a private office, said Serafin,
but it's not known what STA's plans are, except to work on novel.
In lead, Trib reports Circuit Court clerk and long-time Daley
political associate, Matthew Danaher, was indicted w/ 2 others
on conspiracy to defraud, tax evasion and making false statements
to fed'l govt in a scheme allegedly involving $400,000 in bribery
payments to 2 Chic builders
Trib reports Jim Thompson
"blasted" Daley for accusing his office of : conducting a "vendetta"
against Chic Dem organization. Thompson said Daley's charges
"assail the integrity and good faith¹¹ of G-Js and trial juries
that've indicted and convicted close Daley associates. Thompson
also dismissed Daley's comments that his office used immunity
too often. "There's no difference between W'gate case and this
kind of case. Sometimes you have to give immunity to the
people who paid the bribes. 11 If Dean hadn't cooperated, W'gate
case would've gone down the drain, 11 Thompson added.
