in buses. And Delta's Pres. said he'd prefer not to carry it, but
airlines are bound by law. CBS noted there's no guarantee of
safety besides signed statement by shipper.
CBS film of women going thru LA police force training course --
unisex training which is tougher than the infantry. 1/4 of men
quit; 3/4 of the women. Chief Davis said it's a "tragedy" of federal
civil rights law to require such even-handedness. Women lawyers
are fine, but not women as pro footballers or police where physical
prowess is needed. CBS noted studies showing women on the beat
lead to decrease in violence.
NBC film from Idaho where the
Vigilante Comm of 10, 000 is disturbing police. One vigilante
acknowledged people could get shot, but if a rustler was killed,
he'd be getting his just reward.
NBC noted low-key Boyle defense cited "rips and tears" in pros.
case and said he couldn't see how it could be concluded beyond
reasonable doubt that Boyle was involved. Impassioned, bitter
prosecution followed charging Boyle cunning, pious testimony
and "demanding" guilty verdict for Boyle's organizing Yablonski's
assassination.
Senate Commerce recommended confirmation of Quello for FCC.
Minow said there wouldn't have been street protests as avenue of
political expression in '60s if Hill floor debates had been open to TV.
He said young people would'v understood the process better and
expressed grievances w/in normal channels.
