ABC noted W igate defendants charge Sirica has merged the
judicial and prosecutor roles; that he's biased for latter; has
substantial personal interest in case's outcome given that he
was named "Man of the Year, 11 had b'day party given him by
press, is a national hero -- and as he's human, this pr could
affect his judicial performance.
Schorr says AMPI's $10, 000 was allegedly returned by JBC
to safe-deposit box when probe of dairy money began last year
and Jacobson agreed to say it never left box in 1st place
AP
says it was replaced later by new bills that weren't in circulation
at time original money was stashed away. And sources say serial
numbers make Jacobson's testimony and claim of innocence logically
impossible.
Schorr said JBC hasn't yet been confronted w/the
new testimony which indicates he got the money after he called
JNM in AMPI's presence asking that anti-trust suit be called
off.
ABC noted Anderson's story that JBC is under investigation
for possible bribery.
Judge Gagliardi has "reasonable expectations" testimony in
JNM/Stans case will be concluded by middle of next week.
Jury
will have to decide who's been telling the truth, said NBC which
noted some saw defense stalling to prevent cross-exam from
starting til Mond. So JNM ordeal isn't over, said CBS which noted
his many denials, contradicting of others and his "not recalls. 11
NBC said JNM was nervous at 1st, but then settled down.
NBC noted Chic Daily News quote of Cornfeld that RN and Vesco
met secretly in Salzburg in May, 172, during stopover en route to
Moscow. Cornfeld, just released from jail, said a Vesco secy. told
him this. NBC notes WH denies RN ever met Vesco
Cornfeld
said Don Nixon, Jr. and "assorted henchmen" of Vesco were there.
And "there's not anything [RN or Vesco] would 've been discussing
other than that Vesco needed help in SEC investigation. 11
RZ denied
they met in Salzburg, but did not rule out possible meeting "in a
receiving line. 11
ABC noted before the carefully groomed Reinicke came before
the judge, there were 2 long-hairs before him on pot charges.
Judge Parker will consider request to move trial up before Calif. primary
Spec. Pros. won't fight that, but will oppose moving trial to Calif.
ABC noted Reinicke labeled the charges as equivalent of $5 traffic
