Q.
Mr. President: Your Press Secretary is on record that
your budget will be a "solid and credible" one. Can you
tell us what that means; and whether that figure will go
over $200 billion?
A.
You shall have to wait for the message for the specifics.
I will say this: by a "solid and credible" budget, we mean
a balanced budget, a budget that projects a surplus for 1971,
a budget that will be recognized in the financial and economic
communities of this country as an anti-inflationary vehicle,
a budget that visibly slows down the "spending momentum" that
got us into this inflationary quagmire in the first place.
