DUMP-AGNEW MOVEMENT Q. Mr. President: Can you give us your thoughts on the Dump-Agnew Movement within the Republican Party ? Is there any possibility Mr. Agnew might be dropped from the ticket in 1972 ? A. As I have stated many times, Vice President Agnew is a loyal, courageous and energetic Vice President who enjoys my esteem and my confidence. I will not be drawn, however - - either circuitously or directly -- into a discussion of the second half of the ticket in 1972 for the simple and sole reason I am unprepared at this time to discuss the first half. Any speculation you gentlemen might make about the ticket in 1972, I can assure the public, will be just that - - speculation. Now, as for any Dump-Agnew Movement, if there is one it has camouflaged itself magnificently -- for I have yet to learn of its existence. But such movements do occur from time to time -- as I can attest from personal experience - - but if there is such a movement in 1972 I am sure its most enthusiastic supporters will be found among liberal Democrats and not solid Republicans. And should I decide to run for re-nomination and re-election in 1972, the choice of a Vice Presidential running mate will not be made by any ad hoc committees.
