YOUTH Democrats signing up Youth in droves. What does this mean for the President and the GOP? and Why? 1. More Democratic parents, than Republicans main reason. 2. GOP is the party in power; young tend to support challengers, not incumbents. 3. President must make compromises, must bear the onus of unpopular decisions -- challengers can promise Utopia from a podium, a President must live with reality. 4. President is a produce of Depression and the War; the children are a product of Affluence and Vietnam. They see the world through different lenses. 5. One hopes that this Administration will be judged by what happens to their generation in the decade ahead, not how many of their votes we won. 6. Young are interested in new values, and new life styles. The President is not going to surrender his own values, his own beliefs, his own principles -- for popularity. 7. Our forte is not personality; it is performance -- if we can bring an end to Vietnam, an end to the draft, a true beginning to the national effort against pollution -- then we will ha ve won their gratitude, their respect, if not their votes.
