Dear Norm:
This is just a note to thank you for your letter
of May 1 in which you inquired about the possibility of the
Vice President taking part in a Lincoln Day program in your
County next February.
I enjoyed seeing you while you were in Washington
last week and I can understand your busy schedule.
Unfortunately, I do not think it will be possible for
the Vice President to accept your invitation since he can make
only a limited number of out of town appearances during the
opening weeks of the new Congress. For this reason, I think
it would be advisable for you to obtain another speaker who
could make a commitment at this time.
If you are in Washington again, 1 certainly hope
that you will get in touch with me so that we can have an oppor-
tunity for a visit.
