My dear Mr Nixon.
It was most thoughtful and kind of you to send me the Nixon
ash tray which I am sure I will find most useful
One of the practical uses will be as a receptacle for the ashes
of clippings of articles from certain columnists with whom I am in vigorous
disagreement about the qualifications of Richard Nixon for the Presidency
and I intend to burn them with due ceremony.
Reuben, Jr and I agree most heartily that the aforesaid Nixon
is exceptionally well prepared in every way for the high office for which
he has been mentioned and we feel sure he will be our inspiring leader after
the November returns are in.
I was most grateful for the opportunity for friendly, informal
discussion with you and Billy Graham which your all-too-brief visit to
Lake Logan provided.

With the thought that you might like to have one

of my ashtrays I am sending it to you under separate

but most pleasant visit I had with you back in 1956.
I saw Reuben and his wife here in Washington on

Dear Mr. Robertson:
19:30
Thank you for your kindness in send-
ing me the handsome photograph album. I cer-
tainly am pleased to have this excellent pic-
torial record of my pleasant visit with you
and Mrs. Robertson. You may be sure the pictures
will often serve to remind me of the enjoyable
time I was privileged to spend at Lake Logan.
I greatly appreciate your thoughtful-
ness in providing me with this memento of a very

happy occasion.
With kindest regards to you and Mrs.

The Honorable Richard Nixon
The Vice President of the United States
Washington, D. C.
My dear Mr. Vice President:
Many thanks for your most gracious letter of
August 15.
As you "made history" at Lake Logan in catching
your first trout there, we thought you might like to have
photographic proof of your skill, so are sending you with our
most cordial regards and best wishes a little booklet of snap
shots taken during your visit to North Carolina.
It would give us the greatest of pleasure to have
you and Mrs. Nixon with us at the Lake again, and then we
hope that Peg and Reuben, Jr. can surely be present.
The preliminary news from California is most
encouraging. We hope most earnestly that nothing will happen
to alter the trend.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr. Robertson:
My weekend in North Carolina is now a very
pleasant memory, but I want to tell you that I shall always
remember with gratitude and deep appreciation the gracious
hospitality you and Mrs. Robertson extended to me.
This particular visit to the Tar Heel State was
certainly a vacation for me in spite of the fact that my reason
for going was to fulfill some speaking engagements. I can't
thank you enough for everything you did from providing such
Robertson, Reuben
fine transportation in the air, as well as on the ground, to
fishing in that "Seldom Seen" pond where your guests always
manage to catch one of those delicious trout. I think I could
be quite content to do just what the name of your lodge implies
for many a day in that delightful spot.
The next time you and Mrs. Robertson come to
Washington to visit Reuben and Peggy, I hope both Pat and

I shall have the pleasure of seeing you.
My thanks and warmest good wishes to you both.
Sincerely,

Dear Russell:
I have often said that there is no
one who is quite as competent a driver as John
Wardlaw who always manages to get me to and
from various appointments here in Washington,
and this is just a note to tell you that I was re-
minded of him soon after you took the wheel of
Mr. Robertson's car when I visited him in North
Carolina recently.
With my best wishes,
Sincerely,
