Dear Jane:
Thank you for your April 23rd letter to
Mr. Deaver. I hope that his biography which

an autograph photo at this time. Upon his return,
I will bring your request to his attention.
Thank you again for writing and for your interest

Legislative, and Executive Branches of our Federal government in some
depth. However, I did not fully understand your role in the complex
system. Therefore, I would apprieciate any literature you could send
me regarding your job and anything you would like to include Labout your-
self. I would also apprieciate an autographed picture. I understand
you are a busy man so I will therefore cut this short.

Dear Deaver
I would like to extend you my sincere congradulations on being
elected to one of the highest offices of our United States. If
possible would you please send me an 8"x10" autographed picture of
yourself and your family, also a brief biography, and a filing card
with your State Seal and your autograph on it. Also an 8"x10" picture
of the seal of your office.
The above request is my desire to add you to my collection of
autograph pictures and biographies of prominent people.
This is a hobby I started November of 1972. On March 26, 1972,
I had a spinal operation and was unable to work for a year and two weeks.
During the recuperation period I became very bored and depressed.
I thought, I had better do something to get out of the rut. Writing
to well known people seemed interesting and also proved good
therapy. This is how my hobby and collection got started. I find
it fascinating and take great pride in showing my collection, called
"My Library of History." I only wish I had started sooner.
"My Library of History" first started with pictures of United
States Presidents. To date my collection includes all Presidents
and their families from President and Mrs. Carter back to President
and Mrs. Coolidge. Many other prominent figures have contributed
to my hobby such as Vice President Mondale and other former Vice
Presidents and wives. of the 435 members of Congress most have sent
me autographed pictures, biographies and many interesting letters.
Included are some Senators and Governors. I hope to have them all
soon.
Others that have responded to my request áre: The Pope, our Bishop,
Billy Graham and other religious leaders, five Generals and many
officers from World War II.
I recently started a picture history of airplanes and spacecraft.
One of my most prized possessions is a beautiful picture of Capt. Eddie
Rickenbacker standing beside his 1918 Spad, also his autograph and
memorian prayer card. I have pitures of the 32 picked Astronauts,
pictures of Blast Off, In Space, On the Moon and Sky Lab I, II, III,
Apallo-Sayuz, later pictures of Mars, etc, 3/50 Shuttle
Included in "My Library" I also have autographed pictures of
famous actors, actresses and have started a collection of Indians,
sports, campaign aricles, small cloth state flags and stamps from
all over the world and the United States.
I plan some day to pass this collection on to my son and then
his son. (With the help of God)
I sincerely hope you will contribute to my hobby and enlarge
my collection. I would be very grateful and honored to be able to
include you in "My Library of History".
Thank you.
Respectfully yours,

SUBJECT: Request for Autographed Photo
TO: Michael Deaver
Deputy White House Chief of Staff
The White House
Washington, D.C.
Sir:
I enjoy collecting actual autographs of individuals who have made
or who continue to make significant contributions to world
society. Your accomplishments place you squarely in this
category. Therefore, I would like to request your autographed
photo for inclusion into my modest collection. If an autographed
photo is not possible, please sign the enclosed card.
Please accept my apology for any inconvenience and I thank you
for your time.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Deaver:
For the past several administrations I have sought
and received the autographs of the most notable and influential
members of the White House staff.
If it is possible, I would like to have one of your
official cards personally autographed (not by autopen) by you
for my collection.
Often in past administrations the secretaries
frequently either stamped or autopenned the signatures to the
cards. I hope that your secretary will not do that.
I am the past President of the Manuscript Society for
the Greater Washington Area. I have built up over the period of
over twenty years a nice collection of documents, letters,
personally signed photos, and just autographs of 20 of the 40
Presidents of the United States, and 23 of the Vice Presidents.
The major problem I and others have is that it has been next to
impossible to get authentically signed material from the modern
Presidents from Kennedy on. Only one member I know of in the
Manuscript Society was able to get the Presidents from Kennedy
to Reagan to personally sign. He had an album in which one page
contained the signatures of Abraham Lincoln (with Andrew Johnson
signing the reverse as Vice President), then Theodore Roosevelt
and every President since then. So, if I ever have the rare
opportunity and good luck to meet the President, I plan to ask
him to sign his photograph or his inaugural speech, which I will
have with me.
I wish you well during the second term. I am sure
that you have many goals you wish to see accomplished in your
area of responsibility. I wish you well.
Thank you very much for your time and for your
autograph. I appreciate it.
With best wishes, I remain
Yours sincerely,
John E. McInerney
