Dear Mike -
Considering the events of the past weeks, the
enclosed are inconsequential. Send them along simply as a matter
of interest.
I think Stanford an outstanding place for a Presidential Library.
When we moved to Palo Alto, I took a position at Stanford, and loved
it there with all of those young people. It is a beautiful campus,
as you know
and many was the lunch hour when I got in the
car and drove over to some beautiful spreading live oak to enjoy
the beauty and quiet.
All good thoughts to everyone

Dear Mr. Lake:
As Mr. Deaver was leaving yesterday morning
for the Far East, he asked me to send a
special thanks to you for your "Care" pack-

on your part and will be a real treat for
them to have on this demanding trip.
Thank you, too, for your words of well-
wishing.

Dear Mr. Deaver:
We are pleased to announce that Michael R. Dahlstrom, Terrence P. Kibby,
Thomas R. Scalf, and Richard M. Wickersty have achieved the rank of
Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America in Troop 510 in Naperville,
Illinois.
You are cordially invited to participate in the awards ceremony and
banquet to be held in their honor at St. Raphael's Church on Gartner
and Modaff Road in Naperville, Illinois. This will take place on
Sunday, December 11, starting at 4 p.m.
As you know, this is the highest rank attainable by a boy in scouting
and is achieved by only 1 out of 100 scouts. This achievement is an
important one in the service of their country. I hope to hear from you
in the affirmative.
Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Mike:
The attached documents represent a request by a world-wide christian youth
organization for a letter of congratulations from the President. The
organization known as the Messengers of Peace are convening their world
conference on November 23, 1983 in Phoenix, Arizona.
I'm sure such a letter would be helpful to the President and would be
handled properly since the organization's International President is Gaddi
Vasquez, a member of my staff. Gaddi has been a long time supporter of
the President and would like to share the letter and if possible a photo-
graph of the President with the 6,000 delegates attending the convention.
I hope things are going well for you.

Dear Mike:
I am enclosing a letter from MaryLucy McGrath to Ms. Ann
Wrobleski dated October 27, 1983 with regard to the possibility
of having a White House Reception on December 8, 1983 for the
sponsors of a Dinner Dance in honor of the new production of
"Cinderella" by American Ballet Theatre. I wanted you to know of
this request and hope that it will be possible to work out some
kind of arrangement which is consistent with your requirements.
Needless to say, if there is anything I can do to provide
additional information or assistance about this matter, I would
be delighted to do so. I do hope that you and Carolyn would
be able to join us for that evening.

Dear Ms. Wrobleski:
It was good to speak with you today. I thought it
might be helpful to clarify for you the American
Ballet Theatre plans regarding the World Premiere
of Cinderella, now that they are formalized.
American Ballet Theatre plans a Dinner Dance in
celebration of the production of Cinderella on
December 8, 1983 at the Organization of American
States Building. In addition, the World Premiere
will take place on the evening of December 20, 1983
at the Kennedy Center.
We will also be giving, on the afternoon of December
20, 1983, a private final rehearsal of Cinderella
wh :h might be of interest as well.
We now how busy Mrs. Reagan's schedule is and
gr atly appreciate her consideration of any participation.
We hope that Mrs. Reagan will consider honoring
American Ballet Theatre by allowing us to hold a
White House Reception for our sponsors, who are
attending the Dinner Dance on December 8th. Dom
Perignon has offered to give the champagne for such an
occasion. We envision going to the White House at
approximately 6 p.m. for the Reception and the guests
departing at 7 p.m. for the Dinner Dance at the OAS
Building. This would be of enormous assistance to us
at this critical time in American Ballet Theatre's
history. It would also help us make the resident
Washington community aware of the World Premiere on
December 20th. As you know by the 20th most of official
Washington will have departed.
American Ballet Theatre is a great american institution,
led by one of the greatest artists of any time,
Mr. Baryshnikov. We hope that Mrs. Reagan will find
herself able to help us in this time of difficulty and
economic restraints.

My sincere appreciation to you for presenting this
matter. I hope for an early answer.
Many thanks again.

Dear Mr. Deaver:
The enclosed resume is submitted for your possible consideration
regarding my continued interest in serving within the Reagan
Administration.
The positions of most interest to me would be those of the
support nature in which I could assist in The White House operations.
However, I shall be enthusiastically receptive to other alternatives
that you may feel my service would be of most value. Should I be
selected for any assignment, please be assured of my continued
cooperation and dedication. In addition, I will be prepared to
relocate and meet other necessary requirements as directed.
At this time Mr. Deaver, please express on my behalf to President
Reagan and the entire Administration my support and confidence for
the outstanding effort given thus far. I realize the very tough
decisions that have been made and the many more that lie ahead in
the months to come, this Administration will continue to be successful
because of it's courage and convictions. Also, I wish to offer my
encouragement in a decision for President Reagan to seek a second
term. There is no doubt that with the President's strong leadership
abilities and our hard work would prove successful in this united
effort.
In closing, I do hope that you will afford my interest every
consideration and keep me in mind as developments arise. Please
accept my personal regards and appreciation for your service to

Many thanks for your interest and attention.

Dear Mike:
The enclosed resume doesn't reveal the specialized
functions Paul performs but I can tell you from first-hand
experience that he is a first-rate, enthusiastic, bottom
line oriented individual. While he is exactly the type of
person we need in the Service, he is, unfortunately, frus-
trated by the bureaucracy. He told me that he would look
at other career opportunities during his coming home leave
which is to commence November 5. One of the areas that
intrigues him would be advance work for the White House.
While I personally feel he is overqualified, if you happen

still travelling in the Far East for the
President, I am forwarding your request to
Fred Ryan, Director of Presidential Sche-
duling. I am sure you will be hearing
from Fred very soon.
Thank you for writing to Mr. Deaver with
this worthwhile suggestion for the President.

MEMORANDUM
TO:
MICHAEL K. DEAVER
Deputy Chief of Staff and
Assistant to the President
FROM:
THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
WAS
SUBJECT: Organized Crime Commission
With its charter now completed, the Organized Crime
Commission is moving towards its first public meetings. In spite
of the growing pains experienced early on, I agree with Judge
Kaufman that the Commission now seems ready to carry out its
mission of exposing organized crime.
Judge Kaufman, the Commission Chairman, has tentatively
scheduled the first Commission meetings for Monday, November 28,
and Tuesday, November 29, to be held here in Washington D.C. The
Judge would like to use the first day for ceremonial and
organizational purposes, reserving the second day for the first
witnesses. On the second day, it is expected that I will testify
along with the Director of the FBI, the Director of the DEA, "an
insider" who can speak from personal experience, and an "expert"
in the area from the academic world.
Judge Kaufman would like the President to testify as the
Commission's first witness. Whether by appearing as a witness, or
in some other capacity before the Commission, or by issuing a
statement from the White House or a statement to be read by the
Chairman, I would encourage some message from the President. A
statement in some form would be the best way to underscore the
importance of the Commission and to attract the attention that the
Commission will need if it is to be successful. Attention to the
Commission by the President would demonstrate further the
Administration's continuing leadership in the fight against
organized crime and drug trafficking.
Should you have any questions on the matter, please let me
know. If the President decides to participate in some way, the
Department of Justice will be pleased to do anything it can to
help.

Dear Mr. Secretary:
Your letter of November 10th with the
suggestion for the President to recog-
nize Charles Schulz, the California
cartoonist, has arrived in Mr. Deaver's
office. In his absence, he is still
travelling in the Far East for the
President, I am taking the liberty of
passing on your request to Fred Ryan,
Director of Presidential Scheduling, for
his consideration.
Upon his return I will bring your cor-
respondence to Mr. Deaver's attention.
Thank you for writing to Mr. Deaver
with this worthwhile suggestion for the
President.

Dear Mike:
Next year is the 35th year that Charles Schulz, the
California cartoonist, has been doing his Charlie Brown
and Snoopy series, and it is also the 20th anniversary
since the first network television program involving all
of the characters from that famous comic strip.
It seems to me it might be a very good idea for the
President to recognize this in a small award ceremony of
some kind at the White House next year, because as you
know this is one of the most popular comic strips in the
world. A San Francisco area television producer named
Lee Mendelson has produced all of the Charlie Brown
television specials, and he will be writing you shortly
to urge this matter. In his letter to me, Lee, whom I've
known for many years, remembered that the President called
Charles Schulz at the hospital after the latter's bypass
surgery a few years ago.
With warm regards,
Sincerely,
Says
