FROM:

SUBJECT:
PSI STAFFING
For the same reasons I discussed in my last memo, I will need to
requisition one of the two empty personnel slots you presently
have in your office. You can proceed with your plans to fill the
other one.
This time, Jim, I will also need to requisition some office
space. If you could talk to John Rogers about freeing up some
space in the EOB center corridor, I would appreciate it.
Thank you for your patience.

Re: Judge Richard Markus
Dear Mr. Deaver:
I am an attorney practicing in Cleveland, Ohio.
According to newspaper reports in this area,
Judge Richard Markus, who currently sits on the Eighth
District State Court of Appeals and Judge Alice M. Batchelder,
who currently sits on the United States Bankruptcy Court for
the Northern District of Ohio, have been recommended for a
Federal Judgeship in this region.
I am well-acquanited with the qualifications of
both of these Judges. Judge Markus has the reputation of
being one of the finest judges in this entire area. As a
woman attorney, I have some interest in seeing women on the
bench; however, more important than that, I am interested
in seeing the best qualified person selected for this posi-
tion. There is no comparison between the qualifications of
Judge Markus and Judge Batchelder.
I hope that the qualifications of both Judges will be
examined carefully, and I submit that Judge Markus would be
a credit to the Federal Bench.
Very truly yours,
Mary Ann Rabin

RE: Donald L. Dotson
Dear Mr. Deaver:
I am writing to express our support for the fine leadership Mr. Dotson
has provided during his term as Chairman of the National Labor Relations
Board.
Under his guidance, the Board now approaches the delicate arena of
labor/management relations with a more even handed approach. This equality
is critical in representing the needs and interests of our citizens and was
not always present in years preceding Mr. Dotson's Chairmanship. We are
convinced that his Chairmanship serves both management and labor, as well as
the American people in general.
Therefore, we ask that you express to the President our support for
Mr. Dotson and our belief that his continuation in the position is in the
best interest of all Americans.

You may recall that I released two white

Dear Mr. Deaver:
Sometime in February or March of this year, I had a telephone
conversation with your secretary, Ms. Ann Deluca. At that time
we discussed the President's commitment to traditional American
values, especially his belief in the importance of the family.
Following this conversation, I sent Ms. Deluca a letter which
elaborated a bit on the activities of grandchildren.
At present I am looking for a position as a temporary staff
assistant. Since my children are young, I would like to work
only two days a week on a temporary or part-time basis.
If there is such a need on the White House staff for this
type of supplemental help, I would appreciate your giving con-
sideration to my resume, which is attached.
Thank you very much.

Dear Mr. Deaver:
I am concerned about Ronald Reagan's image with respect to two issues:
the nuclear arms race and the world population explosion. He has softened his
position on the former, but the Falwell conservatives have pushed him too far
on the latter.
The majority of us Americans favor reduction of nuclear arms -- not more
MX missiles or US provoeation of Soviet arms build-up. It would help the
President to acknow ledge this and to bargain away "Starwars."
A majority favors women's choice on abortion. But, more important, we
feel that the population explosion must be stopped. If Mexico doubles its
population in the next 14 years, how can we keep illegals from crossing the
border in increasing numbers? To keep his image as a great US leader, Reagan
must see that every effort is made in Latin America, Africa, India, and
Indonesia to cut the population increases. All thinking people know that,
otherwise, we will have world-wide starvation and revolution.
Please tell him.
