Mr. Ballou indicates (after almost two years) that he\ndid not receive a response from the White House and that, there-\nfore, his money was not returned. Our records show that the\nattached letter was sent from the White House on May 4, 1982.\nMr. Ballou stated his belief that the letter was intercepted\nat the hospital in which he was at that time convalescing and\nthe money stolen (it was a $100 bill according to our records).\nWe have on occasion sent letters to respond to requests for\ncorrections on originals, but in such cases we require the\nreturn of the uncorrected original prior to making changes.
