Wild Dayton News/Journal Herald Dayton, OH James Wright Dallas Morning News Dallas, TX TALKING POINTS: BREAKFAST WITH EDITORS - FEBRUARY 19, 1981 -- I DON'T THINK ANYONE IS MORE IN TOUCH WITH OUR ECONOMIC PROBLEMS THAN YOU ARE. YOU SEE THIS STORY EVERY DAY -- YOU REPORT IT TO READERS, VIEWERS AND LISTENERS. THE CITIES AND LOCATIONS IN WHICH YOU LIVE DRAMATICALLY SUFFER FROM INFLATION OUT OF CONTROL, HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT, ABSURDLY HIGH INTEREST RATES, AND LOW PRODUCTIVITY. ALL THESE ARE DRAINING AMERICA OF ITS FUTURE. -- THIS PROBLEM IS NOT A WASHINGTON PROBLEM. WE ARE CONFRONTED WITH A NATIONAL TURNING POINT. AND I WANT -- I NEED -- FOR ACTION TO COME FROM THE SOURCE OF AMERICA'S STRENGTH: ITS PEOPLE. -- THE ANSWERS DON'T LIE IN THE WHITE HOUSE OR IN THE CAPITOL BUILDING. OUR ANSWERS MUST COME FROM THE CITIES AND TOWNS; FACTORIES AND MILLS; SHOPS AND FARMS. SAVING OUR ECONOMY IS A BIG JOB FOR EVERYBODY, EVERYWHERE. -- I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT IF WE ALL COOPERATE -- THE WHITE HOUSE, THE CONGRESS, THE PEOPLE, AS WELL AS OUR GREAT INSTITUTIONS -- THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO BREAK THE BACK OF OUR TROUBLES AND RESTORE PROSPERITY. -- WE HAVE TAKEN THE FIRST STEP ON A LONG ROAD. I DEEPLY HOPE THAT THE CONGRESS WILL TAKE THE HAND I OFFERED AND JOIN ME IN THIS CRUSADE. THIS IS A JOB FOR ALL OF US -- -- NOT JUST FOR SOME OF US. BELIEVE ME, I MEANT IT WHEN I SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH AMERICA THAT WE CAN'T FIX. -- AS INFORMED INDIVIDUALS, YOU KNOW FIRST HAND THE SCOPE OF OUR ECONOMIC ILLNESS. AS AMERICANS, I THINK YOU REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF ACTING TOGETHER. AS PART OF ONE OF AMERICA'S GREAT INSTITUTIONS, I HOPE YOU WILL HELP US MAKE CLEAR THE MAGNITUDE OF OUR CHALLENGE. ### WITHDRAWAL SHEET Ronald Reagan Library Collection Name Withdrawer PRESIDENT, OFFICE OF THE: PRESIDENTIAL BRIEFING RB 12/7/2007 PAPERS W File Folder FOIA 02/19/1981 (CASEFILE 043330) S07-0077/01 Box Number 3 DOC Document Type No of Doc Date Restric- NO Document Description pages tions 1 SCHEDULE 1 2/18/1981 B7(C) OF THE PRESIDENT [PG 1] [PARTIAL] Freedom of Information Act - [5 U.S.C. 552(b)] B-1 National security classified information [(b)(1) of the FOIA] B-2 Release would disclose internal personnel rules and practices of an agency [(b)(2) of the FOIA] B-3 Release would violate a Federal statute [(b)(3) of the FOIA] B-4 Release would disclose trade secrets or confidential or financial information [(b)(4) of the FOIA] B-6 Release would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy [(b)(6) of the FOIA] B-7 Release would disclose information compiled for law enforcement purposes [(b)(7) of the FOIA] B-8 Release would disclose information concerning the regulation of financial institutions [(b)(8) of the FOIA] B-9 Release would disclose geological or geophysical information concerning wells [(b)(9) of the FOIA] C.
