I.
PURPOSE:
To meet with Mr. Dennis A. Joyner, National Commander,
Disabled American Veterans.
II. BACKGROUND:
Mr. Dennis A. Joyner of Apollo, Pennsylvania, was
elected the 1983-1984 National Commander of the Disabled
American Veterans at their national convention in August,
1983. The D.A.V. is one of the "big four" veterans' groups
with a membership of approximately 800,000 veterans disabled
in service to our Nation.
Mr. Joyner served in the U.S. Army, 9th Infantry Division,
in Vietnam. While on patrol in June, 1969 in the Mekong Delta,
SP-4 Joyner fell victim to a booby trap explosion and, as a
result of his wounds, is a triple amputee. For his action, he
was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Joyner has long been active in civic and church activities.
He is a member of community and professional organizations, and
was appointed by Governor Richard L. Thornburgh to serve on
Pennsylvania's Vietnam Herbicide Commission.
