Economic Relationship
Fourth, in the trade area we should seek:
-
To emphasize to the Australians the degree to which we do
take Australian agricultural concerns into account in our policy
formulation, and implementation and the extent to which we have
maintained an open market for Australian exports.
- To encourage the Australians to recognize that the root
cause of declining wheat prices is the changed supply/demand
balance resulting, inter alia, from subsidized EC exports and
increased production in consuming countries.
- To indicate to the Australians that reduced U.S. agricul -
tural price supports are a first step toward greater sensitivity
to market signals. x
