Hart Mfg. Company,
G.W. Hart.
Upon the suggestion of Mr. Cherry of Sargent & Company,
I visited Mr. G. W. Hart, of the Hart Mfg. Company, Hartford, Conn.
Mr. Hart treated me very cordially and called in serveral of
his engineers to see the samples which I showed them in their
vault. Mr. Hart immediately fell in with the idea that the
luminous push-buttons was a remarkable article and suggested
that we send him samples at once. They have been interviewed
by Mr. Kelly of the Radium Chemical Company but were evidently
not impressed by his stroy. story
During my talk with Mr. Hart I fortunately mentioned
the application of luminous material to the switches used in Pull-
man Cars. Mr Hart informed me then that they manufactured all
the switches used by the Pullman Company and immediately had some
special samples made up while I waited SO we may prepare them wi th
luminous material and return them to him to be submitted to the
Pullman Company in Chicago.
The matter of price is very important in this case and
we will probably have to utilize a cheap grade of material. Of
course, it is necessary to see the button about three feet in the
Pullman cars, which are quite dark. Mr. Hart also gave me samples
of wall plates with the suggestion of countersinking the luminous
material between the two button holes.
I left Mr Hart, with the understanding that they would
experiment with our material as soon as the samples were received
and action would be as prompt as possible.
They have a very large
factory which is running to full capacity at the present time and
they look like good prospects.
P. M. Willis.
