The last samples received from the Standard Chemical
Company, November 8, 1918, are graded according to
letters A B C and D. The samples of this test are
graded according to numbers. It would help greatly
if the corresponding letters and numbers used by the
Standard Chemcial Company could be obtained.
Test No. 2 - Coarse and fine samples of material made September 9,1918.

This yest was made November 2nd and there seems to have
been no real change since the first readings were taken.

Test No. 4 - - Samples of the Standard Chemical Company received November
18th, 1918.
Readings taken December 5th, 1918.
Luma D - - 18.7 Cm.
" B - 22.5 Cm.
" A - 30 Cm.
The large jump from B to A occurs in all readings of
this material taken so far. It may also be detected by
the eye with the aid of the machine.
Test No. 5 - Readings taken December 5th, 1918. Material received from
Cold Light Company, November 30th, 1918.
No. 13 - 32.7 Cm.
No. 7 - 55 Cm.
No. 11 - 36.5 Cm.
No. 5 - 58 Cm.
No. 9 - 48.5 Cm.
No. 4 - 63 Cm.
A special test of the application material #10 was
carried out. A sample of this material of the same age
and quality as that being tested in our test No. 3 was
applied in regard to determine the drop in luminousity
caused by the paste. This material read 24 Cm. before
being applied. After the application, it read 48 or 52
Cm. according to the kind of paste which was used. One
sample was applied with a special paste made as follows:
about 75 CC of Rosemarie oil was added to 300 CC of
texine. In this mixture, special clear Demar gum was
desolved until the proper paste was obtained. This
paste when applied gave a reading of 48 Cm. Paste No.31
gave a reading of 52 Cm. Had material used been of a
lower grade, the difference caused by the paste would
have been greater.
