The measurement is & record of the reading taken in our labor-
atory and is probably as accurate as it is possible at this time to make obser-
vations of luminous material. As you know, this work is all done in the dark.
The operator does not know what the reading will be until after his measurement is
made and his gauge fixed. This method insures accurate and unpre judiced readings.
The samples of Luma were secured in June and were delivered
before the materials had reached their maximum or point of equilibrium BO that these
maximum readings can be considered to represent best Luma quality. Sometimes we
secure samples of competitors' materials and we are not sure of the dates of man-
ufacture, whether the material is new or old or the condition in which it has been
kept, etc., so that we are not always sure that we are doing our competitors full
justice in making the readings, but in the case reported above, we are convinced
that the comparisons are extremely close and well made.
The measurements as read show a lesser amount for high lumin-
osities than for low luminosities. In other words, the scale is reversed. This
has been corrected in Column #3 showing cost per unit of luminosity, the unit of
course being an arbitrary factor but necessarily a constant in all readings.
The net price for Luma is their regular quotation less 10 %
which we believe corresponds to our minimum schedule. It is safe to assume that
should this not be a fact that these prices are not more than another 10 % out of
the way.

For Attention of
Mr. Dimick.
Answering Memo. of
Comparative Luminosity of 'Undark' and 'Luma', Continued.
Compare the prices of Luma and our materials with the same
or nearly the same luminosities, as for example Luma 5 and Undark F, both reading
21, the price of $13.25 in the one case and $6.00 in the other.
Column 3, Cost per Unit, affords many interesting comparisons
and points for study. This is valuable not only to point out the superiority of
Undark but also to point out the materials that afford the best value for the money,
ranging from "F" to "K" inclusive.
"L" is apparently somewhat out of line with other readings of
Undark. This is due probably to some slight inconsistency of price and probably
in a measure also to the reading. It is difficult to secure the same accuracy
reading low luminosity materials as when reading high luminosity materials.
Yours truly,
RADIUM LUMINOUS MATERIAL CORP.N,
By,
AR/HM
