You then took the ground that you did not want to re- ceive a anlary during your vecation, as that would leave you under obligation to the Company, and stated that you preferred to take your vacation without selary in order that upon your return you might be in a position todisouss your further relations with the Company I did my best to disauade you from this port- tion, but was unsuccessful, and after announcing your resignation you suggested that the Board oould discuas the matter better in your abasnce, and said that instead of attanding the meeting you would go to Orango and write out your resignation. The Bostrd heard my report with regrot, and authorized the Treasurer to en- desvor to get you to withdram your resignation the next day. In this, I understand, he was unsugcessful. How you gathered from what happened that you were "fired by Mr. Croas" I fail to under- stand, nd truat that your reconsideration of the Caots will slter your vievs on this aubjeot.
