U.S.Radium Corp.,
Dear Sir:
Yours of 17th inst. redd and in reply would say the
girl in question they call Lucy and is employed by the Essex
Specialty Co. of Berkley Heights N.J. They took particular
interest in her as they have known her form babyhood and
noticing she had a swollen jaw sent her to a Dentist in Newark.
Dr. Harry Buschler, 566 High St. Newark,N.J., and from what I
could learn she had a mouth full of decayed teeth, and that the
Jaw bone infected came from carelessness in not taking care of
her teeth and not having the decayed ones removed in time.
I would suggest that Dr. Drinker call on the dentist
as they could get more definite report than you or I as both
being Drs. they would more likely to get honest facts, and I
think it would help to solve the mystery. All employes of this
plant have been examined (male and female) and no trace of
poisoning was found, but lots of cases of no care taken of the
teeth and mouth causing decaying toeth.
They are batching a mixture containing 40 lbs, of which
14 02. is white phosphorous. The mixture is put up by one man and
when put in the mixing killis is not handled again by hand until it is
formed dry and then coated with a powder and then the girls wrap it in
tissue paper to be boxed. I forgot to say that their products is
called
which is an exploding dise about 3/4 in. in diameter
and will B off by striking it with the foot and the explosure causes
it to jump around.
If there is anything further you would like or if I can be of
any help whatever kindly let me know and I assure you I will be very
glad to do it and will thank you for any information you care to give me.
Respectfully
(signed) Thos. F. Greens
