Roach, Deputy Commissioner\nDear Roach:\nConfinming my telephone conversation with you this\nmorning relative to cortain steps which we have put into operation\nin our plent at your recommendation with regard to handling of our\nluminous material, the following are in effect.\nTe hava constructed a hood in which all material ie\nweiched and handled. This hood is connected with an exhaust fan which\ncauses a curront of alr to flow into the hood and go protect the\nfrom any dust perticles which may be floating around. We have under con-\nstruction a similor hood to be used in the painting department where the\nmatorial may be moistened before truning over to the operators.\nThe operators have beon furnished with gowns and rubber\ngloves to wear while painting. The gowns havo troxiced out satisfactorily\nbut the rubber gloves have not. to the close fit of a rubber glove\nthe hands perspire and enase considerable discomfort causing the\noperators to remove thom unless supervision is very close. Te roally\nbelieve that dausing the hands to perspire in this way and oponing the\npores will subject the operator to groster hozerd if there be any in\nthe handling of this material hton handling same without the rloves.\nTe have installed a now type of crucible which enables\nthe operator to hold same and stir the motorial without coning in close\ncontact with the material itsolf. In the old type of crucible in\nstirring the meterial the operator would spill some over the od.ge and\ninaanuch as the crucible was hold with the fingers it would naturally\nmot on the hand. with the now crucible this has been oliminated.\nTe ask that you reconnidor the matter of gloves and allow\nour operators to worl without them as their use is not practical and we\nbelieve more harmful than without.\nVery truly yours,\nUNITED STATES RADIUM CORPORATION\nHBV:H\nVice President."
