Dear Dr. Flinn:- I am very favorably impressed with your report and it seems to me as though you have covered the subject as well as it could be in the time you have had. I hardly feel qualified to criticize, but have ventured to introduce a few slight changes in the text, and present herewith a few matters for your further consideration. Page 2, end of first paragraph. What about the use of nuvocaine as compared with cocaine? Page 9, para raph 2. I infer that the man you speak of is Leman. The total quantity of radioactive material determined was 0.015 mg instead of 0.048 as you have. I am inclined to think that the variation in the Leman and Mallifer cases may be partly explained by the different types of bones used for analysis in the two cases. Page 10, last paragraph, compare. It is not surpriseing that persons around a crystallizing plant or those coming in frequent contact with the concentrated material show the pres nce of radioavtive substances in the body. The effects detected may be either from solid substances deposited in the body that enit penetrating gamma radiation or from the saall quantitAties of the gaseous disintegration product (radon) which may be in the circulatory system. Both cases examined were exposed to rather laege quantities of emanation the day prior to there our tests. Page 11, last sentence, continued on page 12. I note that you have made no further reference to the fogging of the dental film. Page 17. Don't you think it would be well to introduce a sentence stating that the quantity of material found in the pig killed 15 minutes arter the injection was representative of that in- jected into the other animals. Page 17, at the bottom. In reading is few notes in one of the recent scientific journals giving a report of the papers present at the Kansas City meeting of the Association for the Advance- ment of Science, the last week in December, I find reference to a very interesting article by S. C. Lind of the Fixed Nitrogen Research Laboratory on the activity of one alpha particle in the production of physical and Ehemical changes, 10 to 15 fold that what has been ordinarily ascribed to it. You will recall that Dr. Schlundt mentioned this matter. Lind's work is not reported in full but will appear later. This may be a very vital factor in this work. Report enclosed. Very truly yours,
