"SOLAR SEAL" (MANUFACTURED MAR101923 March 5th, 1926 Mr. A. Roeder, - - United States Radium Corp., 30 Church St. New York City, N. Y. Dear Mr. Roeder: In a recent issue of the magazine section of the Hearst News- papers there appeared a sensational two-page article, under "scare headlines" telling of the dire results happening to some of the girls working in your factory. In this article the writer explained how the girls got poisoned by radium thru moistening the brushes containing the radium salts on their tongues, etc. Personally, my dear Mr. Roeder, I don't believe the thing ever happened as described in the newspaper article, firstly, because the adhesive, with which the selts are mixed, would be too sticky and distasteful for any refined young lady to acquire the habit of continuously licking the brush, secondly, because I have had over twenty years' experience in handling redium and its various salts in both highly concentrated and modified forms, without any physical ill effects whatever, and thirdly, we have girls working in our factory, some of whom have been working for us for over eight years. These girls are continu- ously handling radium salts in a far more highly concentrated form than that used in your "Undark Material' and they are a remarkably healthy lot in every way. My reason for writing you this letter is to get en expression from you which will be of value in explaining the matter from your viewpoint. Thanking you in advance for this favor and assuring you of hearty cooperation on our part in combatting any adverse pub- licity, I remain Sincerely yours, RADIUM APPLIANCE COMPANY MLD:FGD Technical In L.
