Dear Mr. Roeder;
After a long study with animals and examination of girls employed
in painting with luminous material, I am convinced that radium or mesothorium was
not the cause of jaw trouble among the girls in the Orange Plant. Both from the
statistical and experimental evidence, one can come to no other conclusion. It is
true that at this time we can not explain these cases but there is no evidence that
radium is the cause of their trouble. I expect to have my completed report in your
hands by the end of next week and then you can see how I arrived at this conclusion.
Of course I cannot tell what future investigation may show but at this time
I cannot but feel warranted in making the above statements. Certainly the remarks
as published in the American is full of untruths. All of my own experiments and those
is eliminated
of others show for example that the radium material and does not remain in the system
as the article said.
I trust that your company and others will see their way clear to finance
a further research as to some physiological factors connected with radium.
