COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRY HARRISBURG March 19, 1926. United States Radium Corp., 30 Church Street, New York City. Gentlemen: This Department is collecting data to be used in the protection of the workers of this state who are handling radio-active substances. Will you kindly advise me of the measures you use for the protection of your employees handling such materials? I am particularly interested in knowing whether or not you require physical examinations of your workers. If so, how often these examinations are made and also the character of them; that is, what points are especially looked for as an evidence of early manifestations of the injurious effects of radio-active substances on the individual? In addition to the information concerning physical examinations I shall be very glad to have you describe to me what precautions you have your workers follow in the handling of these materials. Appreciating very much any help you may be able to give us, I am Very truly yours, Elizabeth B. Brisker Elizabeth B. Bricker, M.D. Chief, Hygiene and Sanitation Section EB/B
