We are enclosing an article by Dr. Frederick B. Flinn, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Physiology in Industrial Hygiene, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, on the so called "Radium Necrosis" or radium poison- ing cases. The investigation by Dr. Flinn, which formed the basis of his article, has been by far the most thorough and far reaching work undertaken on this subject. This article will appear in one of the early issues of the Journal of the American Medical Association. While it seems that the charge that radium caused the condition of the various girls so widely advertised through the press a few months ago, is entirely unfounded, we naturally hesitate to make the broad statement without fur- ther investigation that radium in luminous material is not dangerous and, therefore, caution you to that in order to be absolutely on the safe side that your operators are not permitted to point their brushes between their lips. Enenever there is any further authentic information on the subject we shall be very glad indeed to pass it along to you.
