January 30,1927.
Telephone conversation between Dr. Joseph Knef of Newark,
N.J. and Mr. Barker, of U.S.R.C.
Dr. Knef called up on the 'phone about eleven (11) o'clock, Wednesday
November 30th,1927, and asked if it would be convenient for me to
drop by in Newark and have dinner or a private interview with him, tonight,
or in the near future. I told Dr. Knef that I thought our objects
might possibly be at cross purposes and that I did not believe we had much
to discuss. Dr. Kneffreplied by stating that he felt that we had
never been at cross purposes, and due to the fact that he had taken a
liking to me, and felt that I was one with whom he could be frank in
this matter, he should very much appreciate having a private interview.
I replied by stating that I had just returned from a trip out of town,
and did not have things so arranged that at the moment I felt at liberty
to make an appointment, but that I would call him back in a few days.
He again assured me that he was anxious either to have dinnerwith me,
or if not convenient for me to do that to drop by and have an interview
with him.
