February 10,1927. Dr. H. B. Flinn, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, 437 Test 59th St. N.Y.C. Dear Doctor Flinn: I beg to quote one paragraph of a letter I received from Dr. Herman Schlundt, dated Tebruary 7th: "I fail to see why alpha rays should exercise a dephosphor- izing action on bone. True it is that phosphorus is one of the elements whose atomic nucleus suffers decomposition by a head-on collision with alpha particles; but this event, in my opinion, is too rare to desorve consideration in this connection. Wish I lonew something about the chemical changes that occur in the necrosis induced by phosphorus possoning. Such information might suggest a lead for speculation. Very truly yours, Vice President.
