RADIAT Dear Mr. Lee: - is As you know the medical profession in and about Waterbury are more or less interested in the so- called "Radium Poisoning" cases, and I heard of a con- versation a day or two ago in which one medical man took the stand that he was positive that radium had nothing at all to do with the necrosis, but that it was caused by mesothorium or some other powerful ingredient other than radium, which was used in the radium painting com- pound. As a matter of information, will you be good enough to tell me just what the maximum proportion of mesothorium was used at any time in your compound, and what proportion, if any, you are using at the present time. Also whether you have used of are using now any other luminizing agent in addition to radium or mesothorium. This if, of course, confidential and solely for our own information. There is one other point in which I think you can help us, and that is we notice that the dials which you are luminizing for us appear to be of a different mixture or applied in a different manner than those which we use on the Alden. We notice that they have a sort of gluey or waxy effect, and do not readily crack even on bending the dial. If there is some improved method of applying the com- pound would you be kind enough to so advise us. Also the edges of the figures seem much sharper than ours. Today we are sending you a lot of 350 Alden to be luminized as per our letter of even date, and we would ask that you do all you can to hurry these back to us.
