Mr. H. H. Barker
United States Radium Corporation
535 Pearl Street
New York, N. Y.
My dear Barker:
I judge from your letter regarding the enclosure of a
letter from Arthur H. Thomas to Doctor Flinn, that you are somewhat
mistified and I do not wonder at it at all, so I will try to explain
how it happened that I sent this quotation from Arthur H. Thomas to
Doctor Flinn.
We are conducting our tests for radioactivity on the
air of the crystallizing room in Schweitzer Hall and I secured from
Arthur H. Thomas a quotation on a Gas Bagg Such a one as Dr. Flinn
and I used on our trip to Waterbury Connecticut. I sent this quota-
tion on to Doctor Flinn to find out whether the two accessory valves
listed in the letter were the right type and to find out, moreover,
whether these two valves would complete the outfit. The letter, in
other words, has nothing to do with the work which we are contemplat-
ing.
I have just received a letter from Dr. Marden and he says
that a letter from Mrs. Marden to Mrs. Schlundt is on the way which will
tell more definitely about their proposed trip west. I take it, however,
that he expects to be in Columbia for a few days about the second week
in August.
I hope that you will have a fine vacation. When you get
into Canada please take in the Muskoka Lakes which I judge are about one
hundred and fifty miles north of Toronto. One of the resorts is called
Cleveland and the other is Gregory, I think. There is a golf course
nearby or across the lake and rates are moderate.
We have had two weeks of very warm weather===the thermo-
meter running up above ninety degrees every day. Yesterday we had a
drop in temperature and a little rain, but I have no inclination to play
tennis.
With very kind personal regards, I remain
Sincerely yours,
Herman Schlundt
