Dear Dr. Flinn:
I spent a very restful week in Northern Michigan
and have just returned to my office ready for a semester of energetic
work.
I did not feel in the mood while in the woods to
transcribe the laboratory notes which I took with me but I shall attend
to this matter very shortly.
I have written to Barker suggesting that he become
one of our subjects for the proposed experiment on the radium determine-
tions in excreta. The experimental data which you gave me just before
we parted seems to me as are only qualitative in nature. In order to
make experiments of this kind quantitative, we must have the radium content
and total weight of ashed residues. Now I recall that you showed me
the residues upon which you made alpha ray measurements by film method, and
I believe that Barker made one or two radium determinations. I hope that
the residues you had represent the totals and that by weighing these up
we could calculate the total radium content. I may say that if the
analytical determinations of the radium content of any of these samples
representing excreta from Mrs. Dumschott should be made, I shall be glad
to do this. I have also proposed to Mr. Barker that I shall be glad to
make the radium determinations on the residues representing his excreta.
Shall we proceed with experiments of this kind?
Perhaps you will find another subject or two when
you make the tests for radioactivity on the girls next week at Waterbury.
Hoping that you feel rested and ready for a year
of active work, I remain
Sincerely yours,
HS
