September 216t,1928. Dr. Frederick B. Flinn, College of Physicians and Surgeions, 632 West 168th St. N.Y.C. Dear Dr. Flinn: Your letter of September 19th, is at hand, and I wrote Dr. Schlundt yesterday giving him the complete information on the 5 samples of excretia analyzed at our laboratories. I very well appreciate Dr. Schlundt's position in feeling that complete data should be kept on all experimentel too work conducted, and agree with him that records cannot be/complete in any scientific investigation. One can never tell at the outset of what value such information may prove to be before the work has been completed. However, I agree with you that in the particular instance at hand it is probably sufficient to consider this phase of the work in a qualitative light only and not attempt to interpret same in a quantitative manner. However, it would be extremely interesting in the event that a case was found where elimination was taking place and the gamma ray history of the case would check ththamounts eliminated through excretia. I have written Dr. Schlundt quite in detail suggest- ing that we forego this phase of the work at the present and consider it in a qualitative light only, especially in view of the urgent need of a preliminary draft of the data available at the moment. I am in hopes that Dr. Schlundt will follow this procedure. The case you mention from the Radium Emanation Corporation is esceedingly interesting. It would seem off-hand that there is some fundamental information lacking in the history of this case, otherwise the gamma, ray test should show negative even though the patient may be suffering from the effects of either external radiation or inhaled emanation. I am hoping to see you some time the first part of the week, when I will be glad to discuss this case further, as well as take up with you the matter of analysis of the bones of the autopsied specimens which you possess.
