Industrial Poisoning Cases Among Watch Dial Painters-The effect of the use of radioactive substances on the health of workers using these materials in the painting of clock and watch dials, has recently been brought to the public attention once again through the lawsuit filed against the United States Radium Corporation of Orange, N. J. According to the present paper 14 girls who have been employed in this plant at various times since 1917 have died as a result of the absorption of radium. In addi- tion, there have been 3 deaths reported among watch dial painters of Waterbury, Conn. The case against the United States Radium Corporation was settled out of court with an agreement providing that each of the victims is to receive an imme- diate cash payment of $10,000, an an- nuity of $600, and an allowance for medical and legal advice. It is reported that one of the original workers with this substance, formerly an official of the United States Radium Corporation and the person who originated the formula for the luminous paint used in the New Jersey plant, is at the present time a victim of radium Labor Rev., 27, 1:42 (July), 1928.
