Potter and Berry,
60 Park Pl.,
Newark, New Jersey.
October 3,1928.
Mr. C. B. Lee,
United States Radium Corporation,
535 Pearl Street,
New York City.
My dear Mr. Lee:
I was consulted during the second week in September
by a Mrs. Canfield who wishes action taken against the United States
Radium Corporation. During the last year, Mrs. Canfield has developed
a jaw condition which is similar to that of the five girls who sued and
those who have died. Dr. Humphries, to whom Mrs. Canfield went,
has told her within the last four months that her trouble is due to radium.
I had Mrs. Canfield tested and her expiratory air is radioactive.
I have had several people come to me who had formerly
worked or the radium corporation and claimed to be injured as a result
of their occupation, and have sent them away upon examination because
I believe their claims unfounded. I recite this because I want you to
know that I realize the position of the radium corporation.
I believe, however, that Mrs. Canfield is justly entitled
to redress. Both she and her husband worked for the United States Radium
Corporation. Mrs. Canfield was employed under her maiden name of "Mae
Cubberley." She was forelady at the Newark plant before going to
Orange. Would you be interested in doing anything in her behalf without
action taken?
Very truly yours,
Potter & Berry
