My dear Howard:
I am enclosing herewith the revised transcript of our
paper ready for the publisher. The entire paper has been rewritten and we
are enclosing an extra two copies, one for yourself and one for Dr. Flinn.
I
have on hand another copy. You will note that in returning this re-
vised copy that I have incorporated practically all of the suggestions which
you and Dr. Flinn have submitted in your letter of October 20. I agfee
with you that the omission of the outline will improve the paper.
Referring to your remark about the rate of transforma-
tion on page 16, line 5, of the old manuscript, the rate given, 18 per cent
I think is correct and it is Obtained by multiplying the number 2.09 X 10-6
first by 60, which would give the constant per minute, then again by 60,
the constant per hour, and finally by 24, the transformation
18 per cent. You will note that I say that it is being transformed 18
arthr
per cent per day which amounts to an accumulation of about 16 and 1/2 per
raky
cent, but I think the expression as we have it there is the one generally
given. ( See page 81 of your bulletin on Radium Extraction) In reading
over the paper you will please note that I have made several small changes
in rewording which I hope you will find are in most cases improvements.
In looking over the last issue of Chemical Abstract, I
observe that papers similar in character to ours appeared in a journal known
as Radiology. I must confess, however, that I do not know about the standing
of these journals, and I shall therefore leave the entire matter of securing
a publisher in the hands of you and Dr. Flinn. It is quite immaterial
to me where the paper will be published. It seems to me that our main
objective at this time is to secure speedy publication.
With very kind regards to both you and Dr. Flinn, I
rema in
Sincerely yours,
Herman Schlundt
