A natation, Nov 22, 1928
Let us consider a subject whose expired air contains 1 x 10⁻¹⁰ curies
of radon per liter. This volume of expired air is exhaled, let us say, in
10 seconds. At this rate of transpiration what amount of radon will be ex-
pired per day? Evidently the quantity of radon expired per second will be
one-tenth of 1 x 10⁻¹⁰ curies, or 1 X 10⁻¹¹, and it follows further that
-11
the quantity of radon expired per minute will be 60 X 1 x 10 =
6 x 10⁻¹⁰ curies and per hour the value will be 60 X 6 X 10¹⁰ or 3.6 X 10⁻⁸
curies, and per day, the quantity is 24 X 3.6 X 10⁻⁸ = 8.6 X 10⁻⁷ = 0.86 micro-
grams.
