    "ocrText": "November 29th 1928.\nNovember 28th,1928.\nPotter & Berry,\n60 Park Place,\nNewark, N.J.\nAttention Mr. Raymond H. Berry\nGentlemen:\nWe have your letter of November 23rd, and suggest that if you\nhave any complaint to register against the actions of the Committee\nappointed to investigate the condition of the five girls, that you take the\nmatter up directly with the Committee, since your access to them is as\ncomplete as ours.\nWe believe that we are agreed that the Committee, namely, Doctors\nEwing, Craver and Krumbhaar are non-partisan. You will recall that when\nyou, Mr. Barker and I talked with the Committee at the time of their first\nmeeting, it was clearly stated they could exercise their best judgment in\nconsulting whomever they pleased with regard to the problem at hand, regard-\nless of their past connection with the litigation.\nIt was further\nunderstood that our contact with the Committee was to be through Dr. Craver\nand yours through Dr. Krumbhaar, inasmuch as these men were our respective\nselections. Dr. Failla was selected by the Committee as the man to conduct\nthe tests forradio-active materials, and so far as we know there are no\nconditions which would preclude him from consulting with whomever he pleases\non this phase of the work.\nWe feel that the final conclusions arrived at by the Committee are\ngoing to be independent of any prejudice that might exist with regard to\nthese cases, for we have faith enough in humanity to feel that the caliber\nof the men on our Committee or any with whom they associate themselves is\nsuch that they will be strictly non-partisan, and that the general well-\nfare of the girls in question will be the vital matter for consideration.\nRegarding the Committee consulting with men mentioned in your\nletter, we take no exception, and presume that they have availed themselves\nof the knowledge and information which these people are competent to give.\nIt is our experience that the ethics governing the actions of men devoting\ntheir life's work to pure science, without regard to personal gain either\nmonetary or otherwise, is quite beyond reproach by a good many of us deal-\ning in commercial fields.\nIn accordance with these circumstances we cannot see where there\nhas been the slightest violation of the original agreement which set up this\nCommittee. The Committee was chosen in strict accordance with the pro-\nvisions of the settlement agreement and, so-far as we know, they have\nfunctioned in strict accordance with its letter and spirit.\nVery truly yours,\nCBLee:RH\nPresident."
