Gentlemen:
There has been a considerable interest taken
by many of the public health and industrial officials
in the possible health hazards connected with radium
painting, and the Surgeon General has had numerous re-
quests for the Service to investigate this subject.
Before undertaking any investigation, it is
thought desirable to have a conference in Washington on
December 20th, at which would be represented public
health officials, state departments of labor and indus-
try, representatives of labor, and representatives from
the industry concerned.
This conference would be nothing more or less
than a round-table discussion of the facts relating to
the present status of the hazards of radium painting, and
would consider suggestions to the State officials as
to the best means of protecting workers in the future.
I am sure that the Surgeon General would appreciate hav-
ing a representative from your company attend this con-
ference, and if you will let me know, you will receive
an official invitation.
Should you desire to discuss the matter per-
sonally with me before the conference meeting, I will
2
be glad to come to New York any time next week which
you may suggest.
Sincerely yours,
spilimpsm.
